Seniors

Our Senior Division has become highly competitive over the past couple of years, seeing young dynamic anglers coming through the Provincial ranks into their A Teams ready to compete at the highest National level. With the phenomenal growth in numbers over the years, B Nationals is held to ensure all good up-and-coming anglers have opportunity to get into a ranking position should they perform well.

2024 Senior A Nationals

2024 SENIOR A NATIONALS was held during mid-April in the Kamberg, KZN. Hosted by CGFFA it was an all-river event with sectors on the Bushmans and Mooi Rivers. Rivers were running high and fast after recent rains in the catchment, but the anglers did well to produce some good fish counts overall. The team challenge did not disappoint the Provincial supporters and followers, with an intense final session to see who could take home the trophy. Western Province came out triumphant in the team challenge, but Brett van Rensberg (CG) took individual Gold after a fine overall performance. We thank the community members of Thendela and Giants Castle areas for stepping up in to the roles of controllers, to the Giants Castle Reserve for use of their river section, as well as the landowners of the Thendela Mooi River section & Riverside Farm.

Head over to SAFFA Facebook for coverage of the event and results, and an interesting post from visiting Australian angler Stewart Dick.

Senior World Championship Team 2024

2024 saw a SASACC Team head to France for the Fips-Mouche World Championship hosted in the Southern region of Occitanie. The Championship comprised three river sectors, and two mountain lake sectors fished from the banks in rotating beat format. The team was a mix of experienced and new anglers to World Championship Level - Daniel Factor, Brett Van Rensberg, Barry Ubsdell, Matt Burgess & Shawn Driver.

France led from the start to take Team Gold, Spain the Silver & USA the Bronze, but our young team SA performed really well out of the twenty-two teams.
Dan Factor commented - "What an incredible two weeks! So proud of our team for hitting our top 10 goal, finishing 8th overall. I’m thrilled to have placed 11th individually.
Huge thanks to everyone for the support, especially our amazing support team, David Ferreras Fly Fishing and Aritz.
I am excited for the next few weeks of reflection and sharing lessons learned. Looking forward to building on this success with Team South Africa next year!

Senior B Nationals

Senior B Nationals dealt a challenge in conditions to the anglers taking to the usually low crystal clear waters of the Maclear area in the Eastern Cape as a rainy frontal weather pattern moved into the area just days preceding. Rivers were high, milky and muuddy accross sectors but anglers got on the job nonetheless. Most sectors produced multiple blanks in a session on the Pot river, proving to be a little better in Session five . Enthusiastic controllers from the local community kept the anglers spirits up as the team fought a close battle for gold medals.

The KZN team were victorious in the end with Central Gauteng B & C teams scooping silver and Bronze respectively. Dale Moore (CG) worked hard for his Individual Gold medal and netting the largest river fish. Visit our results page for the full results. Top ten individual receive an Invite into the A Nationals in April at Underberg, KZN. Find the event Gallery on the Galleries page.

Commonwealth Fly Fishing Championship 2023

The Commonwealth Fly Fishing Championship is held every alternate year and is hosted on rotation by a chosen member country. The beautiful Isle of Islay in Scotland was the fishing ground and hosting country to the 2023 Commonwealth Fly Fishing Championship. Our SASACC Senior Men's team really did us proud both on and off the water. They showed their ability to adapt on the lochs,  which are so very different to home waters in both style and the conditions they faced, finishing off with an excellent 4th position overall in the team standings.  To top off their pride, they came home with the Fishing in Friendship trophy, an award voted for by all the teams entered into the championship - Nicely done fellas!
