Youth Nationals 2017
The SAFFA Youth structure is solid and still growing. They are mentored and coached by Senior anglers in each of the Provinces, coming together annually in a team format to participate in the Youth National Event.
It is through this structure that our Youth Protea team is selected each year to experience and represent South Africa at the World Championship.
The 2018 Youth Nationals were held at Du Kloof Lodge in the Western Cape hosted by Boland Fly Fishing Assoc. Two river session on the Smalblaar, two boat sessions at Lakenvlei Dam and a bank rotating sector at Le Ferme were fished over the five sessions. For the second consecutive year we had a Youth team from Czech Republic participating in the competition allowing for both an International event and our National Championship to take place. It was a great learning experience for the South African and Czech Youth, with the Czechs showing their dominance as river anglers. The Czechs won the International trophy and the National Championship results were as follows:
The Individual winners were:
- Gold: Stefan von den Heyden, WP
- Silver: Liam van der Merve, KZN
- Bronze: Thembi Ngxongo, KZN
The Winning Teams were:
- Gold: Western Province A
- Silver: KZN A
- Bronze: Boland A
