Masters

Masters

Our Masters Division is on the up as many of our  Senior lady and gent anglers reach the 50 year age group for Masters. Young at heart and fit on the water, we have some serious experience in this division.

2024 Masters Nationals

Five scrum format river sectors on the Vaal River awaited our Masters anglers for this years 2024 Nationals. Held during mid September at Vaal de Solieh, conditions were good this year in terms of the water flow and clarity, with hungry fish to be found in most of the five sectors. Strong wind on day two appeared to be the only challenge for anglers as they waded the sectors and got their catches to the sidelines for measuring and recording.

Numbers and sizes of fish were good this year, impressive fitness and agility was shown on the sometimes tricky Vaal. An awesome event was smoothly run by GNFFA. The trophy stays with KZN who topped the fish count by an impressive margin.

Biggest Fish: Sean Orr > 661mm    Most Fish: Jacques Marais > 61yellowfish
Team Gold > KZN
Team Silver > Eastern Cape
Team Bronze > GN A

Team Announcement 2025 Fips-Mouche World Championship - Spain

2023 Masters Protea Team

2023 saw the 8th Fips-Mouche Masters World Championship being hosted together with the 3rd Ladies Worlds in Kamloops, BC Canada. Despite giving it all on the waters, our Masters did not achieve the better result they were after. There is never losing in this game... knowledge and experience is always the winner. That together with fishing in such spectacular scenery as found in the Kamloops area, catching new species, and the camaraderie that is synonymous with the participation in a Masters Championship makes it all worthwhile.

From L > R Gavin Lourens, Pierre Nel, Andre Gouws, Johan Jansen van Rensberg, Gillies Mc David.
